sincerace1About Director Carl Diebold

What began as a boy’s rite of passage turned into a monumental life lesson for six-year-old future-director Carl Diebold. With the help of his older sister, young Carl was learning to ride his bicycle. With a little practice and a few minor mishaps, he was able to ride without help. And so, with a new-found feeling of accomplishment, he pedaled to the brink of the huge hill that led down to the cul-de-sac where his family lived.

Now, Carl had a choice to make.

A part of him said, “Turn around Carl, you should probably learn to stop before you try this one.”

Another slightly louder part said, “How important is stopping, really? You’ve already learned to ride. What’s the worst that could happen?”

Flash-forward to 1996: After spending his childhood and teen years developing a passion for moving pictures and movie-making, Carl plunged headlong into the world of professional video and film production. With a keen eye and a signature vision, he garnered critical accolades and has earned the opportunity to direct some of the music industry’s top entertainers including Gavin DeGraw, Switchfoot, Mandy Moore, and Skillet, just to name a few.

In 2004, Carl further defined his focus by founding Sincera Films, a full service film production company specializing in commercial video projects that range from cutting-edge music videos to compelling electronic press kits (EPK’s) to epic live concert DVD’s to slick corporate training applications. The success of Sincera Films has given Carl a stable platform from which he is free to pursue his own directorial passions, namely: more music videos, short films, and the development of a cutting-edge “behind-the-curtain” reality TV concept.

But what happened to the six-year-old cyclist we left at the top of the huge hill?

If you know Carl, you already know which option he chose, without even learning to use his brakes he committed—fully. Flying down the slope, the wind in his face, Carl somehow managed to stay balanced all the way to the bottom of the hill—and over the curb, past his worried mother, beyond the neighbor’s house—and off a thirty-foot cliff. He awoke a little while later without a single broken bone.

Over the years, not much has changed; Carl still can’t commit less than one hundred percent—and even though he did eventually learn how to use his brakes, it doesn’t look like he’ll ever learn to stop.

About the Name

sin-cer-a [sin-SAIR-uh] – from the latin sin, meaning “without” and cerae, meaning “wax”

As the Renaissance reawakened Europe’s passion for fine scupture, many fifteenth-century Italian artists and stonemasons found themselves unable to secure consistent supplies of high-grade raw marble for their work. The only readily available raw marble was imperfect, riddled with pits and fissure that dishonest craftsmen would fill in with wax to achieve the look of perfection, effectively disguising the instability and inferiority of the finished work.

True craftsmen refused to compromise the quality of their work; they purchased only the finest raw marble, despite its great expense, and to signify their dedication to quality they would proudly identify their work as Sin Cera – “without wax.”

Sincera represents our uncompromising dedication to delivering quality work for every client, no matter what.
